Love-finding apps to conquer Valentine’s Day blues
Being single on Valentine’s day can be extremely difficult. Just walking into the supermarket alone can be hard enough being surrounded by bouquets of vibrant red roses, the assortment of lovey-dovey cards plus being faced with the romantic “dine in for 2 this Valentine’s” signs on the corner of each food aisle.

A lot of people now find love online and there’s many different websites you can sign up to. Give it a try, see if it’s for you, after all there’s nothing to lose. It’s a great way to meet new people and if there’s no spark on the first date you don’t have to commit yourself to a second date or worry about seeing them again!

Match.com went live in 1995 and since then they have successfully helped thousands find love.
Research carried out by YouGov found that Match.com is responsible for more relationships and more marriages than any other dating site.
As well as the Match.com dating website there is also Match Nights which you can attend as part of a group if you don’t feel quite ready for a one-to-one date.
These events give members the chance to get together at nearby venues, share a drink, enjoy an activity and get to meet people.
There are two types of Match.com events. You decide which one you feel more comfortable with:
- Match Nights which are relaxed drinks in a local pub, bar or restaurant
- Alternatively there’s Match.com socials which involve a variety of activities from themed food nights to photography classes
These are great for individuals who are caught up in a busy lifestyle and let’s be honest meeting new people nowadays can be difficult if you’re caught up in the same daily routine.
Tinder is a location-based swiping app where you use a swiping motion to choose between the photos of other users – simply swipe right for potentially good matches and swipe left on a photo to move to the next one.
Tinder finds your location using GPS, and uses information from your Facebook account to generate your profile. Your profile includes your first name, age, photos you’ve chosen and any pages you’ve ‘liked’ on Facebook. You can also include additional details such as occupation and favourite music – you can share your favourite music with potential matches via Spotify.
Tinder finds you possible matches close to your location. If someone takes your fancy, you basically swipe right to ‘like’ or left to ‘pass’. If that person has also ‘liked’ you – then you can begin messaging each other.
