Many of you may have noticed that your battery life has been draining pretty drastically after installing the iOS 7 update. Though the update has arguably been a great improvement to the system, it’s still frustrating to watch your battery plummet at a much faster rate than usual.

There are a few ways in which you can improve your battery life, however, and we’re here to help you out!

Quick note: Bear in mind that you could just be using your phone a little more than usual to check out some of the new features. Opening up new apps and updates will drain your battery, so give it a few days to gauge whether iOS 7 is really the issue, or if you’re just using it more.

Background App Refresh

One of the most battery-hungry new features of iOS 7 is Background App Refresh. The feature essentially lets apps run in the background while you’re doing other things, and it refreshes the content when you’re connected to wifi or a cellular network. It’s easy to disable, so don’t worry. Just go to Settings, General and Background App Refresh. From here, you can either turn off the entire feature or disable apps manually to your preference.

Parallax

The Parallax feature makes it seem as though your phone’s background is moving behind your apps. Although it’s a cool feature, it can slightly reduce your battery life. Some people have claimed that Parallax causes them spells of dizziness, so if you’re affected by it, it might be a good idea to turn it off. Simply go to Settings, General, Accessibility and turn Reduced Motion on.

Restore the iPhone

Restoring your iPhone may seem like a laborious task – having to reinstall apps etc. can be annoying, but it is the solution to a host of battery issues. Go to Settings, General and scroll to the bottom option – ‘Reset’.

There are a number of options available, allowing you to reset certain aspects of your device. What you want to do, however, is to reset the phone completely (Erase All Content and Settings). This should fix the issue.

Apple will probably make improvements to the battery life in future updates, but until then, we hope that these tips work for you! If you decide to try some of them out, let us know the outcome in the comments!
