The new GoPro Hero 8 Black

GoPro has announced the Hero 8 Black which is due to be released mid-October, the 15th. The cost of the new GoPro will be £379 and is aimed at vloggers.

GoPro was founded by sports enthusiast Nick Woodman in 2002 who was in search of a better way of filming whilst surfing. The first GoPro was released in 2004 and since then a number of models have been created. The company has sold more than 26 million cameras worldwide and are especially popular with sports fanatics.

At a glimpse, the core body of the new GoPro will remain the same, however users will notice fold-out finger connectors to the body and therefore accessories can attach directly to the camera without the need for the GoPro mount. The new design will allow users to add on optional accessories which are: a flip-up screen, small light and a shotgun mic.

Features:

Some of the other new features and improvements are:

  • Improved video stabilisation
  • New timewarp mode feature
  • Produce higher-quality images (shoot video up to 100 megabits per second)

Although GoPro holds its position as the most popular action camera, the company faces rivalry from Chinese technology company DJI after GoPro made a recent loss in its last two quarters. An analyst has alerted they could be faced with further difficulties if customers feel the new features aren’t exciting enough!

As smartphones are becoming more advanced than ever before, this has resulted in more of us owning a sole device that contains everything we need. This is an issue the firm is faced with, nevertheless some will be reluctant to jeopardise using their smartphone to video record action sports.

Aimed at vloggers

Vlogging (video blogging) has taken off in the last decade and the new GoPro camera will be partly marketed to social media makers.

Vlogging became popular in 2005, the same year YouTube was founded. Mark Wilson from the Trusted Reviews news site has commented “YouTube has been a massive driver for GoPro sales, and there’s a degree of one-upmanship on the platform where users need to create something ever more spectacular to stand out.”
