5 Absolutely Fabulous Reasons To Keep It Local This Weekend

If your countdown to the weekend has already begun but you’re stuck for ways to make the most of it, you might be surprised by the assortment of fabulous activities taking place right under your very nose!

Check out our top 5 things to do in and around Bucks this weekend, whatever the weather.

1. Sweetie Darling!

Everyman cinema Gerrards Cross

Our favourite local cinema is embracing those notorious Bolli-swigging boozehounds from the 90s, Edina and Patsy, with a very special showing of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie. This weekend, Everyman in Gerrards Cross will open its doors for a Sunday of Ab Fab Rehab and invite cinema-goers to dress up in honour of the hilarious twosome. Kicking off at midday with Chambord Royale cocktails, Bloody Marys (no virgins) and smoked salmon bagels, you can then sit back and put your Louboutin heels up to watch Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reprise their hilarious roles on the big screen.

2. Ready, Steady, Bake

baking

The Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe is hosting an action-packed, one day festival of food this Saturday, including a line-up of top chefs cooking live during the day, a delicious farmers’ market and a very special Big Bucks Bake Off. Surrounded by bustling street food inspired stalls throughout the centre, watch The Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain cook up some of her favourite recipes live on stage outside Starbucks. There’s also free fun for the youngsters between 10am to 5pm at the Kids Corner with chef hat decorating, sushi making workshops and face painting.

3. Up, up and away

Roald Dahl Museum

The Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden is celebrating its Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator weekend by hosting Nick Cook, author of the popular Cloud Riders trilogy. Between 12pm and 2pm, Nick will read extracts from his book, Breaking Storm, create a mini tornado in the room with a special tornado machine and even make airships appear to float around in the air! For children aged 7+ and costing £3 per person plus Museum entry, why not spend an afternoon with your head in the clouds?

4. Howzat!

cricket

If you’ve been inspired to take up cricket after watching all the action at The Oval this week, head over to the Family Fun Day at Chesham Cricket Club this Sunday where you can be coached by the professionals. Between 10am and 4pm, your friends and family can also take part in a 6-a-side kwik cricket game before being bowled over by the mouth-watering BBQ and bar, bouncy castle and a whole host of other activities taking place in the grounds on Amy Lane.

5. Ahoy, me hearties!

Fulmer village fete

The annual Fulmer Day Village Fete takes place this Saturday from 1.30pm to 5pm in the centre of this picturesque village in South Bucks. A firm favourite on the local calendar, this fun-filled day for all the family boasts a wide selection of food stalls, arts & crafts, live music and games to enjoy. This year, there is also a familiar looking Pirate of the Caribbean opening the event and kids can embark on a treasure hunt to be in with a chance of winning some amazing prizes.
