The Samsung Galaxy Fold Smartphone
Samsung’s first foldable phone became available in the U.K earlier this month, on September 18.
The original release date for the Samsung Galaxy Fold was April, however this was postponed following reports of broken screens. Samsung therefore redesigned the model to make it sturdier.
The handset is available to purchase for a staggering £1,900! Costing on average twice the price of a regular smartphone.
Samsung urgently wanted to launch their folding smartphone before competitors like Chinese tech firm Huawei who face growing rivalry for Samsung.
Last year, Huawei was the world’s second largest seller of smartphones, directly behind Samsung in first place. No wonder Samsung are feeling threatened. Huawei plan to release their folding smartphone ‘The Mate X’ in November 2019. It will be interesting to see whether this will have an impact on Samsung’s sales.
The key features of the Galaxy Fold include:
- 7.3 inch AMOLED display
- 6 pro-grade cameras
- 5G
- 12GB RAM
- 512GB internal storage
- Dual battery
- Capable of running three apps on the screen at once
As technology develops the race is on for tech giants to design and release new products. The smartphone has rapidly developed over the last decade and we can only expect to see phone manufacturers unveil new features with their devices.
