HMRC phone scam
A very threatening voicemail claiming to be HMRC has today been brought to our attention.
A local pensioner in her 60s was shaken up after hearing the voicemail message on her home telephone.
The message in question threatens arrest and a court proceeding.
HMRC is filing a lawsuit against you, press one to speak to a caseworker to make a payment.
BE WARNED – this call is a scam!
Certainly do not return the call.
You can contact your telephone provider to enquire about getting the number blocked.
These particular types of call scams are aimed at those vulnerable but can affect anyone of all ages.
Legitimate companies would follow a procedure such as addressing you by your full name and writing to you in person etc.
