The human mind already has the capability to immerse oneself in a virtual realm when we dream and it is incredibly realistic. We are easily fooled thinking we are awake because all sensory receptors are engaged. Artificially imposing sensory stimuli is still a challenge. While we can replace our visual inputs field of view is still small and the lenses embodied in most of these designs have their imperfections. These two factors are probably the biggest challenges we currently have with this generation of VR headset technology https://render.bar/ . Bridging this gap will offer a more realistic view and add to the feeling of immersion. Even if we find the breakthrough we still need to find solutions for the remaining senses.
